The Treaty and Kemps Deed Workshop

Workshop Two: The Treaty, Ngāi Tahu Claim and Kemps Deed

You must have attended Workshop 1 (Getting to Know Us) to be able to attend Workshop 2 for continuation of learning.

WORKSHOP INFORMATION

This workshop runs from 8.45am — 3pm, with an optional Inner City Walk from 3pm-4.30pm (approximately)

Venue:  St Albans Community Centre, 1049 Colombo Street, St Albans, Christchurch

This workshop has a focus on Kemp's Deed and the Ngāi Tahu Treaty Claim over 7 generations, and the impact on the history of the area from pre-1840 to present day.

The workshop is held off the marae and in the central city.  There will be a karakia and waiata at both the beginning and the end of the workshop.  We may ask individuals who are confident to lead this process.  Information will be sent prior to the workshop.  (If a whole Kahui is attending, we may change to a mhi whakatau and ask the Kahui to lead this process).

As an option the inner-city walk is offered by an experienced facilitator who will lead the group to many of the significant sites that tell a cultural narrative of our city, some of which are mentioned in the workshop.

A booklet is provided for each participant with helpful information to continue learning about our people and their histories.

The cost to attend the workshop is $200 (plus GST) per person and includes the following:

  • Fully facilitated session
  • Booklet
  • Morning Tea
  • Lunch
  • Optional inner city walk

A 10% discount will be applied for groups of 10 or more.
